Air Conditioning Service Port St. Lucie Florida

How Exactly Does Your Air Conditioning Service Work?

Most homeowners living in humid coastal cities know they need an AC system, but do not know how it works. Knowing how your air conditioning service works while living in Port St. Lucie gives you the knowledge you need to easily identify when you need an AC repair or inspection.

So, how does your air conditioning service work?

Air conditioning units use a series of supply and return ducts to evenly circulate air throughout the home. This chain of ducts pushes fresh, cool air into your living space while simultaneously moving the old, warm air out of your home. Your air conditioning service is made up of two parts: the exterior machine and the interior system. The process in which your AC system cools the air requires coolant chemicals and three specific components: the compressor, the condenser and the evaporator.

The compressor and the condenser are usually found in the exterior air conditioning unit. The exterior part of your air conditioning unit is usually found on a cement platform attached the side of your house. The exterior unit also has a metal fan that works with the compressor to dissipate hot air and transfer the chemicals to the condenser.

The purpose of the condenser is to convert the hot and gaseous cooling chemicals from the compressor into cooling liquid. Once that happens, the condenser sends the cooling liquid to the evaporator.

The evaporator is located in the interior part of your AC system. The evaporator drops in pressure causing the cooling liquid to evaporate into a cold gas. This cold gas is then circulated throughout the home via the channel system of AC ducts and registers. As new, cold air fills your home, the old, hot air is pushed out and to the compressor. As hot air reached the compressor, the process starts all over again.

This process takes quite a bit of energy, so you want to make sure you aren’t over-working your air conditioner. Installing a programmable thermostat or upgrading to a modern and energy-efficient system, is a great way to save on your summertime AC bills.

Additionally, you want to monitor your air conditioner to save yourself from an unexpected AC replacement. There are a few symptoms you should be aware of that indicate your AC unit may not be working.

  • Poor to no airflow
  • A new and bad odor
  • Liquid or moisture build-up
  • Loud or unfamiliar noises
  • Warm air
  • Humidity issues

If you experience any of these issues you should call a professional right away so these problems don’t get worse and end up costing you more in repairs. To increase your air conditioner’s lifespan and prevent repairs, you should perform routine maintenance and schedule an annual inspection.

AC systems are crucial to keeping the Florida heat at bay and providing you with a livable home environment. If you are experiencing any issues with your AC unit or need to schedule your annual inspection, reach out to your local air conditioning service in Port St. Lucie today.
